Sneeuwarden

I read with wonder, of the tale
About the Silver Skate,
The Race, and of the boy who came
To tip the hand of fate,
Yet when I came to Nederland,
They said it isn’t so,
We really can’t remember when
There’s has been that much snow.

And then there was that other one,
About the scary leak,
The boy who saved his tiny town
From nature’s raging shriek,
But then I came to Nederland,
And saw the sculptured dike,
A grassy knoll with room on top
For me to ride a bike.

The windmills were the only things
That lived up to the hype,
Of stories read, and tales revealed,
Broad sales in wind they swipe,
And now they say that Nederland,
Where my heart longs to go,
Is draped about from coast to vale,
Beneath a foot of snow!
Skating in Holland - without Silver Skates as the prize.
A Dike - not what I expected when I arrived there.  I wonder where the boy put his thumb to stop the leak?
A farmhouse and Windmill near Groenigen
The big storm of 2005 - Dutch authorities say this may be the biggest storm and the most snow in Holland at one time in 50 years.  Thanks to Denie from Gone Dutch for these photos.
