Different Song

There are those moments
In the still, small hours of the night
When the world breathes a sigh of contentment
And sings a different song

Its not the usual music of the night
The happy chirping of crickets
Or the somber challenge of the all seeing owl
That makes up this chorus in the night

And while the world of darkness continues to sing
My heart hears a different, more subtle melody
As constant as waves crashing on distant shore
This song touches my soul

The wind speaking in hushed whispers
As it tickles the boughs and branches
Though humming a peaceful, hypnotic tune
Cannot begin to compare with the song I love

For there in the dark
Hidden from the world and all its sorrow
The gentle, rhythmic music
Of my love, soft and deep in slumber

Is the music of my night
A different music
A song that softens my soul and soothes my spirit
And enjoins my heart as I drift off to join her
